Nixon Park accepting entries for Roller Hockey Leagues
Starts Next Week Monday, June 22
runs through July 20
Nixon Park will host summer Roller Hockey Leagues to youths in grades 1-9.
The leagues will run from June 22-July 20. All equipment will be provided with the exception of sticks and roller blades. The cost of $10 includes a jersey, and players can use the waterpark after games.
Game times start at 6 p.m.
Grades 1-3 will play on Mondays
Grades 4-6 on Wednesdays
Grades 7-9 on Thursdays.
The entry deadline is June 17.

Car wash a fundraiser for Northwest High School students
Students in Northwest High School's Give Hope program are washing cars Saturday to raise money for a trip to New Orleans.
The group has been helping people recover from the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. The car wash is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tractor Supply Co. at Airport and Springport roads.
All donations will go directly to the participating students.

American Red Cross seeks donors in Jackson area to boost blood supply
Today, the chapter is hosting its "Blood Battle of the Life-savers: Police vs. Firefighters" blood drive from 1 to 6:45 p.m. at the Summit Township Fire Department, 2121 Ferguson Road.

GM files for bankruptcy; Official says Jackson suppliers will downsize, some may close
With General Motors filing for bankruptcy today, some local suppliers may be forced to shut down lines, while others may shut their doors.
"A lot of companies have been hanging on by their fingernails. Those fingernails are getting worn out," said Bill Rayl, executive director of the Jackson Area Manufacturers Association. "It's going to mean more layoffs and more slowdown. I wouldn't be surprised if a few companies closed."

Community Medallion Hunt

Community Medallion Hunt, a fundraiser tied in with the Ella Sharp Museum of Art and History's upcoming exhibit on artist and naturalist John James Audubon and the Jackson County Rose Festival.
The hunt starts Monday. Each day next week, a local business will be announced in the Citizen Patriot, on WKHM-FM (105.3) and on JTV's "The Bart Hawley Show." Visitors who show a Hunt Pass will be given a clue and a question. The clues will point to the location of a hidden medallion.
To participate, you'll need to pick up a pass from the museum, 3225 Fourth St. Cost is $10.
The passes also are good for free entry to a party June 5 that will serve as the kickoff to both the exhibit and the festival.

On June 6, Jackson's First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir will join more than 500 singers from 24 from choirs from around the country for a concert at Carnegie Hall.
The 70-member ensemble will present a preview concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at the church, 275 W. Michigan Ave.

MDOT to begin construction of a center-turn lane on US-127 in Jackson County
Work next week includes temporary widening of the roadway so traffic can be maintained for the remainder of the project. Traffic will be reduced to 45 mph through the work zone, and one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction.
